Summer Olympics 2016: Rio De Janeiro
World’s largest sporting event, the Olympics are fast approaching and this time around it will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This mega event is slated to take place from 5th to 21st August 2016 and over 10,500 players from 206 different national committees (countries).
The event will take place on 33 venues spread over 4 areas namely; Barra, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracana.
Rio’s historical downtown is developed as an a large-scale urban waterfront revitalization project addressed as Porto Maravilha. It spread in 5 km2 of an area. The project redevelops the port area and will increase the city center’s look and will raise Rio’s position in the global economy. Moreover, the city renovation includes 700 km of public networks for water supply, electricity, drainage, sanitation, gas and telecom. Furthermore, 4 km of tunnels, 70 km of roads, 650 km2 of sidewalks, 17 km of cycling tracks; 15,000 trees have been planted along with three sanitation treatment plants.
All this has been done to serve the massive amount of crowd that will include both spectators and players. No doubt it will be a great event and we hope that not only Brazil, but India also win a good number of medals.
