Gujarat Violence: Eight People Killed, Army Called In

Gujarat bleeds to misery. As per recent reports, eight people have been killed till now after the detention of 21-year old, Hardik Patel. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the state Government has called in Indian Army to maintain law and order in the state. The Army has led flag marches on Wednesday and has been deployed in the cities of Surat, Rajkot and Mehsana. Going into the details, five people died on Tuesday night, the night on which Hardik patel got detained. Of them, two were killed allegedly in the firing done by Police on the protestors.


The Hardik Patel led Patidar Anamat Sangarsh Samiti has asked for murder charges to be lodged against the cops who fired at the people. He has also demanded Rs. 30 lac compensation for people killed in firing since Tuesday. The patels have asked the farmers to make their contribution in the protest by cutting off the supply of milk and vegetables to the cities.

The Indian railway system has also got affected by the violence. Nine trains have been cancelled so far, including the Rajdhani and Ashram Express and five have to be diverted from their route.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has asked for peace and calmness in the state. He conveyed, “”Violence does not benefit anybody. We must work together to solve problems through talks”. Earlier the state Government has already issued a statement which says that no reservation can be given to Patels as Gujarat has already touched the 50 percent reservation mark of as imposed by the Supreme Court.

The 21-year old Hardi patel is leading the movement as he wants reservation for the Patel and Patedar caste in Government jobs and colleges. He was briefly detained on Tuesday night and was soon released on bail within 1 hour
