India’s 68th Republic Day – Respect our National Anthem
Happy 68th Republic Day!
We have been reading that Indian Constitution has mandated that every individual has to stand up, whenever they hear the national anthem.
National anthem is a feeling. It is an emotion. It is not about a location or about the medium.
Everybody has doubts/questions about this. Currently, it’s a topic of controversy. Because People do it as a sign of respect not like they are bound to do it. Also the Social media is full of forums with the same. On social Media, people are asking the reason “why its necessary to stand up when national anthem is being played?”
There is nothing in the Indian Constitution that mandates that an Indian citizen stand up when the National Anthem is being played. However, according to the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971, it states that disrupting an assembly engaged in singing the National Anthem is a punishable offense, .
But this beautiful short film made by one of ‘Bombay Films’, made it more clear that “This is why should we respect our Nation flag and Anthem”.
The sounds that enter your ears do strange things to your brain. It doesn’t matter whether that sound is produced by a Bose speaker or a real Bose singing in front of you. If that emotion impacts you, do stand. Else don’t. There is no rule compelling you to do one way or another for a recorded playing of the anthem.
