It seems like problems for Sweden giant Nestle is not going to end anytime soon. First Govt. of India banned it’s most selling brand ‘Maggi’ and now when things were getting in place again as Govt. agreed to lift the ban after fresh lab reports. A new row has come up in its way, Apex consumer court today accepted Indian Govt’s Rs. 640 crore suit against the FMCG giant. Govt. alleged Nestle for unfair trade practices and sue the brand for marketing Maggi with misleading TV campaigns.
The bench of Justice JK Jain and Justice BC Mehta of the National Consumer Disputed Redressal Commission asked Govt. to produce the latest test reports on 30th September, which is the next date for hearing
“The court has sought fresh, sealed samples to be tested by accredited labs. The further course of action will be decided by the ministry (of consumer affairs),” Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain quoted.
It’s looking like that someone in the Govt. has taken an offence on Maggi’s brand campaigns like ‘Taste Bhi, Health Bhi’ and ‘Recipe Jaise Maa Ke Hath ki Bani ’ and using all his strength to get the Sweden brand out of the country. Our take on this issue is that if anything wrong with Maggi, we would want the 2 Minute Noodles on the shelf again, we have better things to eat. But, yes if there is something is cooking inside the Govt. to benefit an Ally then it should be taken seriously as one side our Govt is pleading for ‘Make in India’ campaign and on other side making it difficult for companies to do business here.
